Who we are:
We believe everyone with cancer should have the same fighting chance to survive and thrive. We work in a rapidly evolving field that attracts smart, talented people who are committed to making a difference for cancer patients. But not everyone has access to the latest advances. People who join us are committed to bringing equity to critical aspects of cancer care. We are a lean and driven team building on this vision from the ground up. You’re a self-starter who can pitch in right away by deploying your own expertise to make this shared vision a reality.
The Bioinformatician is a part of our Bioinformatics team, which leads the bioinformatics research and development program at Avitia. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Bioinformatics, you will perform analysis of genomic sequencing data using leading-edge DNA sequencing technologies and computational methods. You will also design and implement analytics tools and reports to support yourselves and others in quality control and quality assurance. Your work directly helps identify targeted treatments and clinical trials that can benefit cancer patients in a robust and quality-assured manner. You work independently as well as together with software programmers, database developers, other bioinformaticians, and laboratory personnel.
What you’ll do:
- Develop, evaluate, manage, and document genome sequencing data analysis pipelines, and other algorithms and statistical models, for novel and proprietary cancer-focused next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays.
- Contribute towards management of the bioinformatics code base, including upholding standards and best practices, and performing code reviews.
- Work closely with the software development team to assess and evaluate changes to data analysis pipelines, optimise their performance, and validate results.
- Work closely with laboratory personnel to design, analyse, and interpret NGS research and development activities.
- Assist with deploying, optimising, and troubleshooting clinical assays performed with global partners.
- Contribute to designing, implementing, and reporting quantitative quality control, quality assurance, and analytics processes from NGS output to ensure clinically robust results.
- Design and generate validation studies and reports required for clinical accreditation.
- Act as a contributor towards collecting and presenting data in plots and tables for multiple purposes, including clinical quality control, ongoing surveillance, external collaborations, as well as to support our Business Development and Marketing teams.
Who you are:
- Education: You hold a PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, data science, biostatistics, genetics, genomics or equivalent.
- Industry experience: 2+ years of experience working in a clinical or research setting, including cancer genomics.
- Coding: Proficient with Python.
- Linux/UNIX: Experienced in working with command-line interfaces.
- NGS: Experienced for 3+ years with standard NGS analysis, including quality control/quality assurance.
- Tech-savvy: GitHub and cloud-based computing, such as AWS.
- Commendable analytical skills: Hold strong knowledge of statistical techniques and analysis of large data sets.
- Attention to detail: Uncompromisingly meticulous with execution of analysis.
